Named in honour of Sir Barry John Curtis, the Mayor of Manukau City from 1983-2007, Barry Curtis Park is the largest urban park to be developed in Auckland in over a century. Still under development, the first stage of the park was opened in 2009 and is expected to be completed by around 2022 as Ormiston Town Centre evolves around it. Once complete, the park will be larger than the Auckland Domain.

We delivered the southern connections, a series of decorative footpaths that carry people through the park and connect to other paths in the park. The southern connections provide people with easy access to sports fields, open space and a scenic surround for leisure activities.

Our work scope included decorative footpaths, timber footbridges and planted gardens that link people to their surroundings. A very high level of finishing was required to achieve Auckland Council’s vision for the park, including pebble concrete, wood grain concrete, decorative cuts and hardwood decking/boardwalks.

The park remained open to the public during construction, so we had to plan all works carefully to minimise disruption and protect their safety.
The south connections project followed our successful delivery of carparks, drainage, a new road and footpaths at Barry Curtis Park in 2014.
