TRAINING |
We want our people to be the best they can be.
STREETSCAPES
We build vibrant spaces for Kiwi communities to enjoy. Our brand is behind the construction, restoration and transformation of some of New Zealand’s most-loved spaces – Silo Park, Aotea Square, Auckland War Memorial Museum, Christchurch’s Bridge of Remembrance and the Margaret Mahy playground to name a few.
Many prominent urban spaces have come to fruition because of our strong focus on design quality, teamwork and dedication to stakeholder management.

GROWING OUR PEOPLE
We’re committed to the growth of our people by providing a range of training and development pathways. We also work with a number of training institutions to enable our team to gain formal, NZQA-recognised qualifications from on the job learning.
Looking to undertake further tertiary study? We’ll get behind you too. We support our people to gain diplomas and degrees in civil construction, supplying the tools to pursue a structured career path. Many of our team have stepped into senior leadership roles by following these pathways.
TAMAKI REGENERATION PROJECT
Job satisfaction for Iese Tulia means being part of a great team. He heard about a role at JFC through the Tāmaki Jobs and Skills Hub which connects Tāmaki locals with jobs.
Before that he’d completed a construction course at Solomon Group Education and Training Academy in Panmure so he felt well prepared going into the interview.
“I was excited when I got the job,” says Iese. “It was a bit unexpected because it was the first interview I’d had for construction.”
The father of two had been released from prison a few months before he had the interview for a one-off offence. He says being behind bars was an eye-opening experience.
“It was both good and bad. It helped that my partner supported me. I know I don’t want to go back there.”
At JFC, Iese works as a labourer and he is gaining experience across the business. Initially he was in a team which lays footpaths and driveways and now he is working on roads.
His team meets at the company base in Mangere at 7am. They work on one or two sites a day across Auckland and usually finish work at about 5 pm.
He says being part of a tight-knit crew makes the day go quickly. “The guys just make the job fun and everyone’s really helpful and patient.”
But there was a lot to learn at first. “On my first day I was nervous because I didn’t know anyone.
“I was mixing cement and I didn’t know how to level the buckets, but I got the hang of it. At the end of the week, they gave me good feedback and said I was a fast learner.”
“He’s picked up the work really quickly. He gives everything a go and it’s paying off for him and for us.”
Johnny says the fact he has a criminal record was no issue. “We just gave him a fair chance. I brought it up with him when I first met him and that was the only time we’ve ever mentioned it.”
Iese says the best thing about the role is the sense of satisfaction it brings. “My favourite thing about the job is when we get the work done. Then I just want to see what the next challenge is. It’s a great feeling, especially if it’s been a big job.”

A FOOT IN THE DOOR
We’re helping people get started in construction careers with our support for the Tāmaki Skills and Career Hub (part of the Tāmaki Regeneration Project) and the Youth Connections Employers Pledge.
The Tāmaki Skills and Career Hub connects local Tāmaki people with local employment opportunities and enables them to gain training and qualifications. Iese Tulia is our first candidate recruited through Tāmaki Career Start, and we’re thrilled to have him on board.
We’re also helping Auckland youth into construction careers with the Youth Connections Employers Pledge. The pledge matches employers with youth that are seeking employment opportunities in Auckland. We aim to help future proof our workforce and provide career pathways for our young people.

MOVING ON UP
We promote from within and many of our team have stepped up into senior leadership roles during their time with JFC. Johnny Verry, who joined JFC as a foreman, and is now leading projects in our Maintenance and Renewals team said, “The opportunities are endless….. It’s really easy to succeed if you want to. JFC give you the tools and training to get where you want to go.”
LAND DEVELOPMENT
Our full fleet of earthworks machinery and trucks provides our teams with the means to undertake large scale earthworks on a regular basis.

We’re helping make New Zealand a better place for everyone. Since 1968 we’ve been enhancing and improving New Zealand’s water, wastewater and stormwater networks, building better transport connections and helping our economy grow.
PIPELINES
We offer capability in all aspects of pipeline construction, trenching and dewatering for wastewater, stormwater and potable water projects. With experience in both greenfield and brownfield developments, our teams work with water authorities and local government to meet the challenges presented by asset life cycle management.
Our qualified teams understand the stringent health and safety and environmental requirements associated with wastewater and stormwater projects, and have proven systems to manage these.
ROADING
With a full fleet of plant and equipment, we can manage civil projects of any scale throughout New Zealand. We have experience and capability across all aspects of surface construction from urban and rural roads to highways.
SUSTAINABILITY
Reducing our environmental footprint is not just an obligation at JFC, it is our responsibility
CARBON EMISSIONS PROGRAMME
We have committed to a carbon emissions reduction programme with a target to be carbon neutral by 2025./p>
CONGESTION MINIMISATION STRATEGY
With our own fleet of plant, we have total control of the level of efficiency and environmental performance. We operate a congestion minimisation strategy to reduce the number of trips made and the time trucks spend on the road. This strategy involves:
- Ensuring all trucks carry a full load in both directions.
- Storing materials in our compound, to minimise truck movements and keep trucks off the road at peak traffic times.
- Mixing concrete on site to reduce truck movements — minimizing disruption to traffic and reducing noise and dust.
- Tailoring each vehicle to its work task and location, for example selecting smaller trucks for constrained urban locations.
WASTE MANAGEMENT & RECYCLING
- We recycle 130,000m3 of excavated concrete material annually, available for use on footpath and streetscape projects.
- We recycle 90,000m3 of clean clay fill annually into land development projects.
- Minimising waste and recycling materials from project conception to completion.
WATER QUALITY
- Excavating with air vacuums in Christchurch has eliminated the need for hydro-vac technology, and the associated water contamination. Excavation with air vacuums is safer, cleaner and faster than conventional methods.
- We are the first contractor in New Zealand to utilise this technology, and this technology will be available in Auckland from 2018.
BEING GOOD NEIGHBOURS
- Minimising disruption to neighbours through use of acoustic cutting booths, acoustic sound barriers for demolition, noise mitigation barriers and sound deadening mats.
- We continually monitor our noise and vibration levels to ensure we comply with agreed levels.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
True sustainability is about much more than just minimising our construction footprint, it’s about making a better, cleaner New Zealand for everyone. We’re committed to supporting and developing the communities in which we operate, through creation of employment opportunities and helping the next generation to learn and succeed.
