The aim of the project was to improve the city’s walkability, increase safety, and offer a convenient and enjoyable way to cut across city blocks. At the same time vibrant open spaces invite people in to stay a while and support local business.
The project area covers Swan Lane and Garrett Street crossing over Cuba Street, flanked by Marion and Victoria Streets.
JFC’s scope of works included upgrading infrastructure, including a sewer connection on Swan Lane, constructing new raingardens and garden beds, laying high specification concrete and paving, and asphalt surfaces. Extensive new lighting was installed to highlight trees, ground and heritage buildings, and improve security through the laneway, plus new seating and new bike racks.
Further scope was added to upgrade Glover Park by resurfacing pathways, replacing tiered tiles with a plastered surface, installing a new hybrid lawn, and new seating and bins.
