Framing a heritage rated Cathedral; this project was an upgrade and rejuvenation of a popular public space within Auckland CBD.
The project had many design objectives, a complicated prismatic/honeycomb paving pattern with basalt and limestone paving, a descending water feature down terraces and coordinating with artists re-installation of commissioned works.
The upgrade followed closely behind the restoration of St Patrick’s Cathedral, and was described as complementing the restoration, and “creating a much-needed sanctuary of peace in the heart of the city”.
The St Patrick’s Square project was awarded the George Malcolm Supreme Award at the 2010 New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects Resene Pride Awards.
