The South Frame: Stage 1 works were a joint venture project with City Care and formed part of the Central Christchurch Recovery Plan to create a well-connected city centre. South Frame connects East Frame with Hagley Park and provides the Greenway — a pedestrian and cycling corridor containing gardens and access to retail and hospitality venues via laneways.
The contract works were spread over multiple worksites across the South Frame and involved careful stakeholder management with the business and property owners around perimeters of the laneways due to the fragile nature of the post – earthquake recovery and the rebuild effects.
Extensive planting within the greenway’s landscape and bio-filtration gardens complemented the bespoke stone seating and raised timber platforms together with the high quality street furniture and designer way-finder signage. A number of street artworks pieces were installed within the greenways and gathering spaces requiring co-ordination and utilities supply.
Feature installations within the project sites included at Evolution Square and it’s surrounds, the “Forest of Memories” – a series of upstanding wooden post reclaimed from the wharfs at the Port of Lyttelton, Catenary lighting on Memory Lane, and a corten bridge in-front of the BNZ Epic Building, part of the innovation precinct.
