Ōtāhuhu Town Centre is a vibrant district catering to a diverse socio-economic spectrum. It is a busy retail district, has an engaged local population, and caters to a high volume of pedestrians, people cycling, bus users, deliveries, and through traffic. After an initial tender period, JFC were ranked highest in terms of capacity, capability and value for money, and were awarded the contract to renew the Town Centre, including the following scope:
– Replace the existing roundabout with new traffic and pedestrian signals at the intersection of Great South Road and Princes Street
– Shared cycling/walking path along the southern side of Station Road and Mason Avenue
– Streetscape upgrade along Great South Road (from Princes Street to Atkinson Avenue), Station Road (entire length) and Mason Avenue (entire length), to enhance the street environment for pedestrians and street-based retails
– Improvements to public spaces at the intersection of Great South Road with Atkinson Avenue and Park Avenue, Criterion Square, and at the intersection of Great South Road and Princes Street
– Re-phase existing traffic signals at the intersection of Great South Road with Mason Avenue and Avenue Road to introduce a pedestrian only phase
– Construction of new signalised pedestrian and cycle crossing points at the intersection of Station Road with Walmsley Road and Saleyards Road
– Construction of rain gardens on Station Road and Mason Avenue
– Modification to the Mile Marker at Criterion Square
